Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).
Do you have a question about any aspect of our clinics or treatments?
Want to know more about locations, prices or what happens during a treatment? The answer may be below.
General Treatment Questions
Where are you located and what times are you available?
The Calm and Clear Complementary Therapies© clinics are located in London in different locations throughout the week.
This includes Finchley N3, Moorgate/Bank and Belgravia/Victoria.
Exact days and times can be found on the Location page under each clinic listing.
As a general rule, the clinics run Monday to Friday (including late evening sessions) and are closed over weekends and bank holidays.
We can often do sessions outside of the listed dates and times, please contact us or complete the Waiting list form if you would like more information about this.
How can I book a treatment with you?
The quickest way is to book your treatment on the online booking page.
If you cannot do this, or you want to enquire about times outside of those available (mainly for Belgravia/Victoria and Finchley) you can also:
- Send a contact form here.
- Send a WhatsApp or Text to 07947359838.
- Call us - 07947 359 838.
What are your treatment prices?
Prices can be found on the online booking page.
Select which clinic location you would like, then a list of all available treatments will be shown with the cost.
There are also some Calm and Clear© Signature Package treatments available as well as Gift vouchers.
Why do I need to complete a consultation form for the treatment?
The consultation forms provides the practitioner with all the necessary details required to safely give you a tailored treatment.
Information required, apart from your name and contact details, includes health problems, allergies, medications, stress levels, sleep patterns, any surgeries or accidents plus more.
Any information given is completely private and confidential, and your details are never shared with anyone else, including any other company or database.
In addition, the consultation form is a legal requirement and it is necessary under the practitioner's insurance to keep up to date consultation forms and treatment notes for each person. As such we cannot do a treatment without the completed consultation form.
You will be sent a link to the online consultation form once you have booked your treatment. If you are unable to use this form, or you have any accessibility requirements then please let me know.
If you would like me to share your consultation form with someone else, for example to another practitioner, please put this in writing to me and I can arrange for this (there may be a small fee for this service).
Can I cancel or change my appointment?
We know that things often come up, so we ask that you give us a minimum of 48 hours notice if you need to cancel or change your appointment.
Calm and Clear Complementary Therapies© has a 48 hours cancellation policy (as per the treatment booking terms), which means that you may be charged the full amount if cancellations are made with less than 48 hours notice before your treatment time.
If there has been an emergency within 48 hours of your appointment then please contact us as soon as possible.
You can change or cancel the appointment yourself (up to 48 hours before the treatment time) using the links on the appointment emails and reminders. If you cannot use these then please contact us.
Can I still have a treatment if I have an illness or cold?
If you are unwell in the days before your treatment then please contact us, especially if it's within the 48 hours before your treatment.
Normally, we cannot do a treatment if you have any sort of active cough, cold, runny nose, fever etc. If you have any thing like this (or any other respiratory infection) we ask if you could re-schedule your appointment for another time.
If you do not notify us in advance about any illness and you arrive for your treatment you may not be able to have the treatment but the full cancellation charge would apply (as per the cancellation policy in the booking terms).
Do I need to allow extra time before and after my treatment?
If this is your first treatment with Calm and Clear Complementary Therapies we advise arriving 5 to 10 minutes earlier than your treatment appointment time so that you can locate the clinic. Arriving early will also give you time to use the bathroom and settle before the treatment.
Our appointments sessions includes time to revive at the end of the treatment, but you are welcome to wait for longer in the waiting area should you wish to rest for a bit longer before you leave.
What happens if I'm running late for my appointment?
If you are running late for your treatment please notify us as soon as possible, ideally by text or WhatsApp.
We will try to accommodate your treatment with the remaining time left from your booked session time, but this may need to be adapted to fit in with the reduced session time.
If there are no bookings directly after you then the practitioner may be able to offer you the full appointment time, but this is done at their discretion. This will not be possible if there are bookings directly after your session.
If you are running more than 30 minutes late for a 1 hour appointment it may be necessary to re-schedule, but the full appointment charge would apply (as per the booking terms).
Do you provide receipts for health insurance or cashback plans?
Yes, we can provide a full pdf receipt after the treatment.
This will be emailed to you and it will have all the relevant information required for you to claim back the costs from your insurance or cashback plan.
If you are unsure if your insurance or cashback plans will cover you for a treatment with Calm and Clear Complementary Therapies, ask them which professional associations they will cover.
You can see which professional associations we are registered with here.
You can also find further information about claiming for cashback plans and health insurance here.
Please let us know before your appointment, or during the session, if you need the full pdf receipt.
Can I combine more than one treatment together in one session?
Absolutely!
It can sometimes enhance the treatments if they are combined together in one longer session.
Ideally, any treatment combination should be done with a 90 minutes or 2 hour appointment to make sure you receive the best of both treatments. We do not advise doing more than 1 type of treatment in a one hour appointment.
Examples of treatment combinations are:
- Reflexology and Facial rejuvenation massage
- Indian head massage (seated) and reflexology
- Indian head massage (seated) and facial rejuvenation massage
- MLD face treatment and facial rejuvenation massage
Other combinations are also possible, please contact us to discuss.
Can I have my mobile phone or pager on during the treatment?
All of the Calm and Clear Complementary Therapies© treatment spaces are mobile free zones.
We respectfully ask people to turn their phones to silent once in the building and in the treatment therapy room to avoid disturbing other people. It also enhances the relaxation during your treatment if the phones are not on.
Please speak to your practitioner if you need to keep your phone on during the treatment for any reason, as we understand that there can be times that we may need to be reachable by phone.

Can I bring my child with me to the treatment?
Babies and children are welcome inside the treatment rooms if you are having a treatment if you have no other options. We cannot accept responsibility of care for the children and you would need to be present with them at all times.
I know many children are well behaved and quiet during the sessions and enjoy being in the treatment space too.
What is your LGBTQIA+ policy?
At Calm and Clear ALL people are welcome.
We pride ourselves in making everyone feel welcome and comfortable. If anyone has any special requests or concerns before their treatment then we are more than happy to speak to you to ensure you get the best treatment. You can contact us confidentially.

These loyalty cards are available on request.

Do you support any charities?
Yes, we regularly fundraise and support a number of charities throughout the year.
In the past we have:
- donated a percentage of our treatments to a particular charity – eg 10% from all reflexology treatments during World Reflexology Week are being given to a charity.
- donated a gift voucher for a raffle or auction
- Provided free mini-treatments at fundraising events in return for a charitable donation
- Provided treatments to staff who work at charities
Reflexology Enquiry
I have ticklish feet, can I still have reflexology?
Yes, absolutely!
The specific finger and thumb techniques which are used in reflexology work deeply into a precise point, so it does not cause a ticklish sensation. The pressure is always kept firm enough for it not to be ticklish.
The only part that some people may find a bit more ticklish is at the start when feet are cleaned with some wipes. If that is too ticklish you can do this yourself rather than have the practitioner do it.
I have a verruca or athlete's foot, can I still have a reflexology treatment?
It may be fine to receive a treatment if you have a fungal infection/athlete's foot or verrucae, but please contact us in advance and we can let you know for certain.
You will be asked to ensure that any veruccas are covered up with a plaster before the treatment to prevent any cross-infection.
A fungal infection, like Athlete’s foot or a nail fungal infection, may mean that we cannot do the reflexology on you particularly if it’s quite wide spread on the feet or it looks infected.
If you are unsure if you can still have a treatment then please contact us
Does reflexology hurt?
Overall, reflexology is deeply relaxing. However, if there may be pressure points which may feel slightly tender when the are worked on by the reflexologist.
The sensations can vary from person to person but may feel like a bruise, pin prick or electricity jolts. At the time of your treatment the reflexologist will discuss the sensations with you and can deal with them at the time.
If you don’t feel any tenderness or sensations then it does not mean that the treatment isn’t working. It could just mean that during that particular treatment there were no deeply sensitive pressure points.
I am pregnant am I still able to have reflexology with you?
Yes, we are fully trained to offer specialised pregnancy reflexology treatments for all trimesters.
If you have any medical conditions or issues then please let us know first.
What happens during a reflexology treatment?
A full consultation is taken before the treatment, checking for any contraindications to treatment. Details about your general health, medication, diet and hobbies will be discussed.
You will then be asked to relax either on a massage couch or recliner, in a darkened room and made as comfortable as possible with blankets and pillows and soft music.
The feet (or hands) will be checked and cleaned with wipes and then be treated using the specific finger/thumb microstimulation technique of the pressure points. Either an oil based balm or powder may be used on the areas that are being worked on.
During the treatment you may feel some tenderness or textures in certain parts of the feet/hands, or possibly around the body. To aid the treatment you will be given a luxurious foot massage at the start and end of each treatment.
Follow up and after care advice might be given at the end of the session, and possibly some “homework”, where you will be shown how to work specific points on your hands yourself in between treatments. General lifestyle advice, including dietary advice will also be given related to your individual needs.

We are specialists in treating during all stages of pregnancy, including the first trimester.
The Pregnancy Reflexology treatment is fine to receive during the first trimester of your pregnancy if you are generally healthy and do not have any major pregnancy complaints or conditions or any other contraindication. We would advise you about this at the time of booking once we receive the completed consultation form.
All of the other treatments are safe to receive too, but please contact us if you have any specific concerns or pregnancy related complaints.

Face treatment Questions
What are the differences between your face treatments?
All of the Calm and Clear face treatments can be used for relaxation, and for aesthetic reasons.
The Facial Rejuvenation massage (also called the Indian Face Massage or Natural Facelift massage) is a 1 hour face massage treatment, which does not use any products. This treatment gently tones and lifts the skin, and leaves the mind feeling deeply relaxed and energised. It has been known to help reduce fine lines and is great for tense or tight facial muscles.
The Manual Lymph Drainage face treatment is usually 1 hour long and also does not use any products. This treatment is lighter than the average massage and is ideal for any puffiness, water retention, sinus congestion and post surgery.
The Calm and Clear® Signature Facial Treatment is a 90 minutes treatment.
It is a unique and specially designed treatment which features:
- Cleansing
- Facial Rejuvenation massage
- Intra-oral/buccal massage
- Vodder decongestive lymphatic therapy (MLD/DLT)
- Moisturising
The products used in this treatment are normally from Weleda and Neal's Yard Remedies.
Indian Head Massage Questions
What types of Indian head massage do you do?
At Calm and Clear Complementary Therapies® we have 2 options for Indian Head Massage:
- Seated Indian head massage - this is done fully dressed sitting on a chair and no oils are used. This is a 30 minutes treatment.
- Couch Indian head massage - this is done lying on a massage couch and does require some undressing. Oils are used for this option and it is a 45 minutes treatment.
Will you be using oil in my hair?
Oil is only used in your hair if you specifically request it – or if we have agreed this in advance.
Usually the seated form of Indian Head Massage treatments do not use oil.
However, in some instances oils can be extremely beneficial for the scalp and hair. If you do not wish to have oil in your hair at the time of the massage then we can advise you about oils which you can use at home.
Any corporate based Indian head massage will never involve the use of oils.
Will I need to get un-dressed for the treatment?
The seated Indian Head Massage treatment is done with you sitting fully dressed in a chair.
There is no need for you to undress for this option as the massage can be done through the clothes.
For the couch based Indian head massage treatment you would need to partially undress as this massage uses oils to massage the upper back, shoulders and neck.
Can I have Indian head massage if I have hair extensions or braids?
You can have Indian head massage with braids and hair extensions, but the actual massage may need to be altered so that the extensions/braids are not damaged or loosened.
There may be some instances where the massage is not suitable, so if you have hair extensions or braids please let us know in advance.
Manual Lymph Drainage treatment Questions
Is this a very firm massage?
No, Vodder Manual Lymph Drainage is a very specialised treatment that differs from most body massages.
It's a gentle and very specific treatment used to help encourage your lymphatic system to function better. Using very firm (muscle level) massage actually can have the opposite effect so it's not used in this treatment.
Which products do you use during MLD treatments?
Vodder Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) does not use any oils or creams or any other products during the treatment. The very specific movements used need to be done directly on the skin level.
